Step Three: Getting to Know the People

Ah, so you’ve discovered that you’re trapped in a time loop. You know where you can go, what you can do, and how long until it all starts over. Great. Now, you’ve got yourself a little activity box, and you’re stuck inside.

Hopefully, you’re not alone.

There’s probably a whole separate category for getting stuck in a time loop where you’re not only the sole person aware of your plight but the only one there inside it at all. Yikes!

Let’s just assume that, for the sake of argument, there are people in the loop with you. And lets further stipulate that you’re the only one remembering the loop.

OK, so what do we do from here.

Every person inside the loop with you is a puzzle. They’re starting from the same point every time, and for them, it’s the first time. They’re going to react the same to the same stimulae. But how they react to different actions by you is going to be the focus of this lesson.

Part of a time loop is the scope of options available to the looper. Like a prisoner tied to a chair, you’re going to wriggle and squirm and see how much slack you can get in your captivity, all in an attempt to eventually free yourself.

In the previous lesson, we talked about a locked door you want to get through. What if opening it yourself somehow wasn’t the only option? Who else opens that door? Can you wait and slip in behind someone? Can you get friendly with a particular person and ask a favor? Can you find out the name of their boss and pull rank via a ruse?

Learn details about people’s lives. This part is easier if you’re an extrovert. But get nosy. Be personable and oversharing and see how much you can get people to reveal, even if you end up making them annoyed with you.

They’ll all forgive you next loop.

Once you have a bunch of instant friends whose buttons you know how to push, you’re ready to proceed to the next step.
