Why are you still stuck in a time loop? By the time you’ve mastered the cello, speak Finnish, and play grandmaster level chess, this question has probably crossed your mind. Maybe somewhere along the way, you’ve gotten so focused on the little details that you’ve missed the big picture. You’ve got one real goal, and you’ve had it all along: ESCAPE.
Something happened to trap you in this time loop. While other possibilities exist, the most likely categories are:
A magical loop with a moralistic requirement for escape.
A scientific loop with a technological solution.
A mysterious loop with no clear rationale.
An inescapable loop.
Let’s address these in reverse order.
If you are in an inescapable loop, you’re just screwed. If this wasn’t intended as an afterlife, it’s essentially going to function as one anyway. We can downgrade “escaping the loop” to the hobby, “looking for an escape,” because you’re stuck for good. In terms of survival guides, this one isn’t terribly interesting. And, not to put too fine a point on it, but no one’s going to come after the author for a refund of their FREE time loop survival guide.
If the loop is mysterious, it may be something you’re just never going to figure out logically. There may be a mechanism or set of rules that you’re just unable to discover. Regardless, your best course of action is simply to try everything. Don’t fall into ruts. Novelty is your salvation. If the loop is escapable, eventually something will work, and you might never understand why. Just thank your lucky stars, try to move on, and hire a really, really good therapist.
Now, onward to the interesting scenarios!
If you have a sci-fi time loop, something technological has gone wrong. Maybe you’ve known all along what that was, or maybe discovering the source will be one of your key tasks for escape.
For this kind of loop, there will be a cause. It will almost certainly be directly correlated to the ending of the loop. Focus investigative efforts to find out what goes wrong, where, why, and how it can be averted. Maybe you need to solve it yourself, which could involve an extended string of loops to learn what engineering skills you need. Maybe you need to put the right people in the right places at the right time. You’ve got a puzzle, and eventually, you should be able to find a solution.
On the other hand, if you’re trapped in a magical loop, you’re there to learn a lesson, grow, or change in some way. This loop will be one of self-discovery, and the solution may seem painfully obvious by the end. However, if you knew what you needed beforehand, this loop wouldn’t have been necessary.
Find your true love.
Return the stolen artifact.
Apologize to the ghosts.
Whatever baggage you came in with or flaws some supernatural entity couldn’t abide, you’re here until you’ve satisfied some condition of parole. So be willing to change, or you’re not getting out.
It is my fondest hope that anyone who reads this guide and finds themselves in a time loop someday is able to escape it thanks to the straightforward advice I’ve provided. Cheers! Happy Time Loop Escaping!
