AI Usage Policy
Artificial Intelligence (AI), including Generative AI (GenAI) has its place in a modern publisher's life. But the technology is still new, and unreliable for many things, as well as being problematic for the environment and the human workers and creators it can displace.
Here's J.S. Morin's (including writing as Xavier P. Hunter) AI Use Pledge.
NEVER AI
Here are things you can count on to NEVER be AI.
- Books & short stories
- Emails, blog posts, and Patreon posts
- Covers on books for sale
- Audiobook Narration
- Merch designs
- Webcomic scripts and illustrations
We pride ourselves on working with human editors, cover designers, artists, graphic designers in creating anything we'd ask you to pay for. And always for audiobook and microfiction narration, including YouTube content and free short stories.
AI OK
- In place of stock imagery, including:
- Advertising graphics & video clips
- Atmospheric imagery for free content
- Components of more robust, human-created book cover compositions
- Analysis of sales and other business metrics
- Transcription of videos (first draft)
- Summarization of streamed videos
- SciFi/Fantasy images for "1,000 Words" improv fiction
- Fan art (We welcome fans visualizaing J.S. Morin characters and worlds, including creations made with AI.)
J.S. Morin, Xavier P. Hunter, and Magical Scrivener Press always expressly forbid the use of any of their titles in training AI models without negotiation, proper compensation, and written permission.
As AI use and integration in other software is constantly evolving, we will update this policy as needed.
