WandaVision trilogy

Witches and warped reality, but which witch watches who?

The WandaVision TV show didn’t seem likely to spawn a trilogy, but it caught the imagination in a delightfully oddball way. From its cornball 1950s black and white to its psychological horror, it was something people hadn’t seen from Marvel. Enough so that it even shined through the growing superhero fatigue.

Magic had been a thing, a power. And Marvel had downplayed it as magic at all. Asgardian magic was portrayed as advanced tech. Wanda herself was introduced as a science experiment. But WandaVision didn’t just acknowledge that magic existed, it made magic a place.

Wanda’s little slice of self-delusion was a warped look into her own hopes and dreams. She wanted normalcy and conjured the most twisted parody of “normal,” trapping hapless townies in a nightmare of improv theater.

With Agatha All Along…

Wait. Hold Up. With WandaVision, I was basically discussing the premise. This gets a little deeper into plot and contains…

SPOILERS FOR AGATHA ALL ALONG

… Anyhoo, with Agatha All Along, we have an entire coven falling for a trap. Unlike Wanda’s captives, Agatha’s came along willingly, even eagerly, in the hopes of finding something that didn’t even exist in the first place. The reality that warped around them wasn’t delusion but pure deception. And, to be fair, the show did warn you right in the title.

Did you think they just named it after the cute little jingle from WandaVision?

But don't worry, even with those reveals, the show still has plenty of layered surprises in store.

Now, with the upcoming (as of typing this) VisionQuest, we don’t know much. (I'm personally waiting until the full series is available.)

BUT! We have heard that Vision is going to have a little mental realm inside his consciousness with a whole host of other MCU AIs inside it.

It remains to be seen how they’ll interact with him, how much control he has over what goes on in there, or how the events inside this mental dimension affect the outside world (if at all), but it’s a fascinating technological analog that ties the upcoming series to the previous two, aside from just the overlaps in the cast.

With the WandaVision trilogy shaping up, it seems clear that the MCU vision for this arc was to explore alternate realities in different forms. Here’s to hoping VisionQuest lives up to its excellent predecessors.

My recommendation: Stream two, add one to a watch list. Or, if you like watching as episodes release, watch the first one next week!

Or maybe you, like us, toggle streaming subscriptions on and off when new stuff on your watch list releases? Worry not. Most people could easily binge all 3 limited series in a single month of Disney+ when VisionQuest wraps up in November (2026).

Oh, and these definitely have nothing in common with Mortania or any other mental realm created using the Tome of Bleeding Thoughts.
